2025 NANOS Bylaws Proposed Amendments Announcement

Posted: 03/27/2025

Dear Colleagues:

The NANOS Bylaws Committee and Board of Directors have reviewed the Bylaws and propose the following amendments. Below is an overview of the updates.

  1. Article VIII, Section 2, Subsection 2: to reflect the revised term for the EIC.
Reasoning for changes: This change is necessary due to the recent experience of editor turnover, which has highlighted the need for a shorter initial contractual period. Additionally, it was suggested that the duties of the EIC be removed from the bylaws, as these responsibilities are better suited for the EIC contract.
  2. Article IV, Section 1 and Article V, Section 2: to remove the EIC from the Board to preserve the journal's editorial integrity and ensure separation of duties between the EIC and the Board.
Reasoning for changes: Removing the Editor-in-Chief (EIC) from the Board ensures clear and unbiased oversight, clarifies responsibilities, and improves governance practices. It maintains the integrity of editorial decisions by reinforcing independence, enhances transparency and accountability through streamlined communication, and allows the EIC to focus on editorial excellence. This change strengthens governance and preserves the journal's editorial integrity.

Pursuant with Article VII, the voting window for the abovementioned amendments will commence online from April 21 - April 30, 2025

ARTICLE VII – AMENDMENTS

NANOS Fellows and

Voting privileges may be suspended at the discretion of the Executive Board if an eligible voter is found to be in violation of the NANOS ethics statement.

Respectfully submitted,

NANOS Bylaws Committee and NANOS Board of Directors
